Thank God It’s Monday!™ How do you deal with the gossip? Gossips are everywhere and they do a huge destruction within an organization. People gossip because they don’t feel good about themselves and they want to hurt somebody else because they themselves are hurting. An emotionally mature way of dealing with that very same issue is to go directly to the person and ask directly for what you want.

The problem is that if somebody’s gossiping sometimes you can be pulled into that gossip and you know at the core of your being that you’re hurting that person, you’re hurting yourself, and you’re hurting the person who’s being gossiped about.

So what do you do? First thing you need to say is, “It sounds like you need to go talk to Joe.” And redirect them immediately when they say things to you like, “Oh I could never because….” At that point you need to take a stand and say, “Of course you can. In fact now you have to because if not, you are gossiping and that will only hurt you, me, and that person. So my request is that you immediately go over and ask that person for what you want instead. That’s the only way of integrity.”

So challenge everyone around you who begins the gossip act to stop them in their tracks and let them know that there’s a much more productive way to handle it and you’re taking a stand for them to keep their integrity. Until next time, make sure you deal with the gossips this week and every week.

Have a great Monday!
