Thank God It’s Monday!™ Appreciate others. The USA Today just came out with a study that revealed employees say the number one thing that motivates them is being appreciated. In fact, it’s the number one benefit ahead of pay, days off, you name it—it’s the number one benefit.

So, who do you appreciate? Well here’s the real mystery of life—people always think appreciation is from the manager on down, but the leading indicator of a healthy workplace is do employees appreciate each other? So not only should you appreciate your co-workers, but you should appreciate your direct reports and here’s the big one—appreciate your boss. Yes that’s right, your boss and your boss’ boss. Why not? They are humans too, and they don’t hear nearly enough words of appreciation.

So how do you go about appreciating? Well first of all you can appreciate for the things they do, the ideas they have, for their accuracy, for their ability to deal with things, for the quality of their work, and for the quantity of their work. Those are the things they do and those are great things to appreciate. But if you really want to put some smoke in this deal, appreciate them for who they are, for being kind, for being joyful, for being bright, for being alive and passionate about what they do, for being committed to the values of the organization, and for being a good human being. Just to list a few. When people are appreciated for who they are—that speaks to their soul.

Never let a day go by where you don’t appreciate at least five people and have at least five expressions of appreciation that come across your lips.

Enjoy today. It will be better as soon as you begin appreciating others.

Have a great Monday!
