Spin Around and Smile

Monday, July 18th, 2011

* Transcription

Thank God it’s Monday!™ Children up to preschool age are said to laugh 150-300 times daily, while adults laugh only 15 times a day!

Sure, as we grow older we may discover that we are not as innately happy as a toddler, but we can decide to smile. In fact, just doing so has been proven to instill happiness. In the late 80’s for instance, a study was conducted wherein students were asked to make a “u” or an “e” sound and record how they felt. Unsurprisingly, subjects that made the “e” sound reported feeling much happier than their counterparts, because they were smiling as a result.

So smile. Smile right now. Smile at lunch. Spin around in a circle and smile. Feeling better? I thought so. Create a great Monday!

Embrace Change

Monday, July 11th, 2011

Thank God it’s Monday!™ Change is rapid. Change is accelerating exponentially. In fact, it is not too outrageous to assume that today’s jobs will not even exist 10 years from now… and you can’t do a darn thing about it.

No person is guaranteed a job, but you can guarantee your employability. The military strategist Sun Tsu said, “In times of peace, prepare for war, and in times of war, prepare for peace.” You may not love the change. You may not have had anything to do with the change, but at the end of the day, it is your job to make the transition to change, and make you a better you.

Have a great Monday!

The Best of You

Monday, July 4th, 2011

* Transcription

Thank God it’s Monday!™ What is possible for you? Do you have latent talents that you haven’t tapped into yet?

President Kennedy confidently declared, “We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills. Because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win, and the others, too.”

Declare an impossible vision for yourself, and then watch who you have to become to make it possible. What is possible for you?

Have a great Monday!

Competition is Good

Monday, May 30th, 2011

* Transcription

Thank God it’s Monday!™ Competition is good—it brings in customers. Ever wonder why competing car dealerships end up right next to five other competing car dealerships? Ever wonder why you find an Abercrombie and Fitch right next door to an American Eagle?

It’s because healthy competition promotes high customer activity. It’s simple economics.

Without the five dealerships all together, you would have five dispersed and struggling companies. Customers need to feel the sense of competition or else they begin asking questions. Am I getting a fair price? Are there any other choices? What are the flaws in this product? The list goes on and on.

Welcome competition. You’ll be doing yourself a favor. And simply decide to deliver more value and you will always win.

Have a great Monday!

The Quietly Happy Workplace

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

There’s a common misconception that the process of motivating employees has to include a lot of waved pompoms, ringing bells, and people popping up like toast over their cubicle walls with a spontaneous WOOHOO!
