Thank God it’s Monday!™ Are you breathing life into life? You know those people who just breathe life into life? Everywhere they go they’re thinking about positive things, sharing positive ideas, giving people reinforcement, leaning forward, their eyebrows are up, they’re listening with all their heart, they’re seeing the possibilities. These are not the same people who are sucking life right out of people by having their arms crossed, their eyes rolled, and sitting back in their chair.

So how do you breathe more life into life? For one thing, you take your work very seriously—but take yourself lightly! Come with a playful spirit and enjoy the moments because it’s a choice. Keep it light and keep it fun, that’s your job! And when you’re listening to people, do lean forward, have your eyebrows up, be passionate about pulling out great ideas from people. Be the one who’s always first to share a positive focus at the beginning of every meeting to let people know that you, as a team, are unstoppable and that you appreciate the things that they do.

Have some fun breathing life into life!

Have a great Monday!

My Way or the Highway

Thank God it’s Monday!™ You know those people—the ‘my way or the highway’ people. Let’s face it, there’s a lot of people who want to be right—but you can either be right or you can be happy. You don’t need to be right, but you do want to be heard. You also want to hear other people. So choose your battles where you really want to challenge things.

Most importantly, stop blowing up when you do disagree. Sure, we did this in the fourth grade, but now it’s time for us to realize that when we disagree we can just simply disagree. We do not need to hold it against the other person and have our feelings crushed as a result. Choose to seek, understand, and be heard about your ideas, and do it with kindness and grace.

There’s no more need for the ‘my way or the highway!’

Have a great Monday!

Anticipate it All

Thank God it’s Monday!™ Anticipate it all. I mean, look for every opportunity to be of service. For example, if your boss asks you to open her mail, then go in and say “I’ve taken the liberty to draft several responses to letters to save you some time.” That would be wonderful. If a customer is walking in the door, anticipate—open the door for him or her. Make sure your boss has the file. Make sure there’s water and coffee. Make sure the clients have the notes they need, and that everything is in front of everyone so they can do all the things that are needed without asking for more help.

Let’s say you’re setting up a meeting. Are all the relevant notes there? Is the actionable agenda set up, planned out, and copied for everyone? Have you dialed in everyone who’s attending by phone before the calls start so you can start exactly on time? Is the conference room scheduled? Is everything set up right? Is the reporting form there to fill out so that whenever someone is assigned to do something, it gets written on that form and copies can be filled out and sent with each person at the end of the meeting—therefore creating a wonderful closure to the loop?

Let’s say you’re meeting with your boss. Do you have all the relevant data? Do you have a succinct synopsis so you don’t waste their time by ranting and raving about all the details? Do you have a recommendation that’s succinct? Have you done everything you could to go out of your way to make sure you have all the things necessary to make a decision?

If you’re booking a flight, have you looked at all the flight options and printed them out? Do you know if it’s the last flight of the night?—because that may create some risks. Do you have a plan B, C, and D? Did you choose the best seats? Do you know what kinds of seats are available on each flight? Did you report out what you did on previous flights that didn’t work so you don’t make the same mistakes again?

Always think ahead and you will become invaluable in your organization and promoted within your career. Anticipate it all and make it happen, because people are counting on YOU!

Have a great Monday!

Always Look for the Bright Side

Thank God it’s Monday!™ Always look for the bright side. You remember the song “Always Look on the Bright Side?” I won’t be singing it, but you know what I’m talking about—looking for what’s good in every situation!

Let’s imagine a few scenarios. Let’s say your best customer just fired you. Now that could be bad—it could mean layoffs, your job could be gone, the company could tank, and you could lose all of your retirement accounts. Horrible, horrible things could happen—or maybe it’s the best thing ever. Maybe you’ll win them back with more business. Maybe you’re going to create different systems so it can never happen again, and now the company will really thrive. Maybe it’s going to force you to dramatically sharpen your skills. Or maybe now you get to focus on new markets which will be better in the long run. Aren’t these different ways of looking at things that create opportunities?

Let’s try another—your boss was just fired. Oh, no! Now you’re going to get a new boss and who knows, he or she may have three heads. What’s the good side? Well, you may get to learn new skills from the person, you may get promoted, maybe the company has high standards, and as a result of that you get to keep your job even during bad times. Maybe it’s the best thing ever!

Okay, now let’s really go down the rabbit hole—you’re put on probation. You can look at it as “They’re giving me a wake-up call and I have the exact plan to recover, so they’re showing that they care and they want me to win.” or “Thank Goodness they’re giving me another chance!” You see, everything is neutral and we assign the meaning.

When you assign good meaning and see things as opportunities instead of problems, you get to have the bright side, and you get to have the bright side results. Choose to have the bright side today and all this week!

Have a great Monday!

Focus on Customer Success

Thank God it’s Monday!™ Focus on customer success. That’s right—not customer satisfaction, but customer success! Yes, I know in the old days the language was always about customer satisfaction. If you use the customer’s name, you smile, and you had a fast response, that seemed to cut it. But not anymore.

So what does that look like? Well, if you’re a teller in a bank, it means asking great questions to help direct people to the right answers. “So where do your kids want to go to college?”, “Have you set the money aside?”, “What do you have coming up that we need to know about to support you in order to make that dream happen?”, “What kind of fears do you have about money that we can help take away for you?”, “How do you feel about how you’re doing with your money?” These are all great questions that tell you what’s important to that customer so you can help them be successful.

Let’s say you work in a hospital—you can ask patients questions like “What’s going on with you today?”, “How can we make you more comfortable?”, “Here’s some information with the website to help you get healing information.”, “What are you afraid of?”, “What do you hope happens with the healing of your surgery?” Questions like that show that you care.

Let’s say you’re an exterminator—then you can ask questions like “How important is it to you that we do treatments that are safe for your pets and your kids?”, “How can we protect your food from the fumes?”, “Should we wear shoe covers when we’re in the house so we don’t bring anything in from outside?” are all great questions that show that you care.

You see, your job is not the product—it’s never the product. Your job is the outcome of customer success in every encounter. Have a hoot creating great customer success!

Have a great Monday!
