Thank God it’s Monday!® It’s never hard to find an excuse for falling short of expectations. We’ve been sick, after all, or busy, or stressed. But a client of mine has an employee with a lesson for us all. She has terminal cancer. It’s hard to think of a more legitimate excuse than that. But instead of turning inward, instead of giving up, she inspires her team every day as she wows customers and shows deep concern for teammates. On the other hand, we all know people who need to go home because they have a hangnail.

Life and work are what we make of them. We could all stand a reminder to take our results seriously and ourselves much more lightly.

Have a great Monday!

Gratitude

Monday, November 7th, 2011

Thank God it’s Monday!® You have a job. It’s not perfect, but a lot of people have no job at all right now. More than half of Americans are currently unemployed or underemployed. Half! So if you’re getting a paycheck, start by being grateful for that.

If you’re underemployed, bringing that chip on your shoulder because you’re making less than last year is not the way to recover that lost income.

Lack of gratitude is the fastest way to dry up abundance that you do have. Acceptance is the answer to your happiness. Gratitude attracts positive responses, which in turn attract positive things. Express your gratitude for your projects, for your coworkers and your boss… heck, appreciate it all!

Have a great Monday!

The Authentic Commitment

Monday, October 24th, 2011

* Transcription

Thank God it’s Monday!® Ever make a commitment, only to get that sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach because you know you can’t see it through? Sure you have. We all have. And the question is, what do you do next?

Too many people let the clock tick away until the deadline arrives, and then they announce that they won’t be able to deliver after all. That’s inauthentic and it damages trust. Instead, when you’re getting that sinking feeling, listen to it, and step up immediately and say, “You know what? I might have answered too quickly. I don’t want to make this commitment unless I’m absolutely certain that I can get it done on time. Can I get back to you later today or negotiate a different deadline?”

When you make an authentic commitment, there’s an expansive, open feeling because you know you can deliver on the promise you’ve made. Paying attention to the feeling that comes with every commitment you make is key to building trust. And trust is key to success.

Time Management

Monday, October 17th, 2011

* Transcription

Thank God it’s Monday!® Time management—no matter what line of work you’re in you know it’s one of the keys to success. Of course the people who need it the most are usually the least likely to do it because they don’t have… time! You’ve got to make the time.

Clear an hour on your calendar now. Create a list of every major project for the next quarter. Break each project into steps, then lay those steps into a weekly calendar—a series for each week. As each week approaches, break it out further into daily action plans.

Suppose I had to write a workbook for a conference. Finish the workbook by October first is kind of a weak goal. Instead, if I break it down into specific steps, like, the section outlines will be done in the first week and I will finish one section each week for the next six weeks. Finally, I’ll prepare the appendix and edit the manuscript in the last week. Now, that workbook will actually get done on time.

Do the same with every other project. Lay out the steps into your weekly plans and watch your personal productivity go through the roof.

Have a great Monday!

Make Your Life Boil

Monday, September 5th, 2011

* Transcription

Thank God it’s Monday!™ Water begins to boil at 212 degrees. Meaning, at 211 degrees the water is really hot. But one degree, one single degree, marks this momentous distinction.

Imagine for a second that you’d never seen water boil. Would you suspect this feat to be possible? If you’d never experienced boiling, how would you imagine the concept of boiling?

Take this model and apply it in your own life. Perhaps you need just one degree more, and then you’ll boil with success! Imagine that. Where are the sources of heat in your life that you haven’t tapped into? How can you push through just one small degree to bring your life to a state of boiling and making things happen?

Have a great Monday!
