Thank God it’s Monday!™ Your schedule quickly gets out of hand. And with the inevitable change of plans and complexity of the day, a minute-by-minute schedule is hardly useful.

Here’s a useful idea; plan your next day before leaving the office. Now you have a definitive plan, and you eliminate the need to lie in bed at night running over your various to-dos causing for restless sleep.

You can make plans to accommodate work that you find unmanageable. You can structure your time such that you can work diligently. And through this preparation, your productivity will skyrocket.

Have a great Monday!

Life is But a Game

Monday, June 13th, 2011

Thank God it’s Monday!™ Life is but a game. You can’t win. You certainly can’t lose. And, it’s the only game you have. But you are constantly reminded that the other players exist—the boss, the family, the neighbor, the church… and they are all telling you what they think is best for you.

At the end of the day, you make your own decisions. It’s your game. And the points you rack up in your lifetime are on you.

But often, especially in the workplace, you are not the only authority in the decision making process. You must find a way to get things done, despite not being in charge.

Make your vision clear to those whose ideas conflict with your own. If your vision is truly more effective, show them why. Chances are, they will appreciate your effort toward identifying an area of growth and allow you to move forward. Play on. Enjoy the game.

Have a great Monday!

We Have to Stop Meeting Like This

Monday, April 4th, 2011

* Transcription

Thank God it’s Monday!™ We’ve all been there: the meeting that takes an hour to accomplish five minutes of work. Learn to effectively manage your meetings to avoid this. How do you do that?

Start by creating an actionable agenda, with a preset time allocated for each topic. Everything on that agenda must be actionable toward a completion. Instead of saying, “discuss hiring a marketing coordinator,” you could say, “define the marketing coordinator’s role, and define the plan to recruit.”

Then, delegate the task of the timekeeper to a meeting attendee who will work to keep everyone on track and keep everyone to the agenda.

You are here to solve problems and move on to great opportunities. To do that, you must create effectiveness with your time.
